Social Work Internship

Practicum Experience

OSHO is a medical social work practicum site. Students will be exposed to hospitals, nursing homes, rehab centers, home health, assisted living, private & public caregiver agencies, veteran services, insurance policies, hospice, and state programs.

 

OSHO is founded on social work principles which include relieving Oklahomans suffering, fighting for social justice, and improving lives and communities. Our internship experience provides students with the opportunity to connect and integrate social work theories & frameworks in a practical setting, particularly in the aging population. Our students apply knowledge of human behavior in the social environment, person-in-environment, and ecosystem. Understanding strength-based perspectives, motivational interviewing and other theoretical frameworks will be utilized while engaging with customers, donors, and our community partners.

 

OSHO uses empathy, reflection, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage in diverse situations, while also challenging personal implicit biases. The utilization of current research and program evaluations are used to understand the needs of Oklahomans and create programs that are evidence-based. Students will also have the opportunity to learn and engage in fundraising efforts, grant writing, and budgeting of a nonprofit should they wish to practice macro-level work.
